Several speakers are dissimulated under the passageways which diffuse a sound composition adding another material to the wire mesh which covers Manny. Between the chinking of metal and vague birdsongs, this low and discrete music is a part of the building’s immediate environment. By treating the sound as a material, Rolf Julius’ aim is to transform the art into sound, reducing the importance of the visual sense to rebalance the perceptive senses.
Rolf Julius was both sculptor and musician. He discribed his work like this: " I create a musical space with my at. With my music, I create an art space. Art and music are the same thing. There is a meeting of minds with the spectator and listener, and from deep inside, something new comes about."
