The Zebra Crossing, Regulations and General Directions - Angela Bulloch
Categories:
Cultural sites

In this work, Angela Bulloch is inspired by “zebra crossings”, British road crossings, to create a special access to Manny.

By scrupulously respecting the English road safety regulations, she has redesigned the public space in front of the building : a series of zigzag lines have been painted along the length of the building, each side of a public crossing of black and white lines, which itself is signalled by the famous Belisha Beacons. These flashing yellow globes on top of black and white striped posts can be seen on every street corner in the United Kingdom, Ireland, as well as in Singapore and Hong Kong, former British colonies.

Description

For Manny, Angela Bulloch submits The Zebra Crossing – Regulations and General Directions : a work which creates a connection between the building and its immediate environment, the outside and the inside as well as the public and private spaces.

From the beginning, Angela Bulloch’s work consists in altering and turning upside-down existing systems, rules and structures. She enjoys remodelling the characteristics of time and space in a given area, by questioning its context or social reality.
